Privacy Policy

1. Overview

dupe.watch ("we", "us", "the Service") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to it. By using the Service — including the dupe.watch website and the dupe.watch Chrome browser extension — you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information we collect

2a. Search queries

When you use the search form on the website or browse a supported product page with the browser extension, we log the URL submitted (or the page URL the extension detected) along with the number of results returned and a timestamp. These records are not tied to your identity unless you are signed in.

2b. Account information

You can optionally create a dupe.watch account by signing in with an email address. If you do, we store your email address and a unique account identifier through our authentication provider, Supabase. We use this only to recognize you across sessions and devices and to attach saved finds and saved watches to your account. We do not store passwords ourselves — authentication is handled by Supabase.

When you save a product to your collection (either on the website or through the browser extension), we store the AliExpress URL, product title, price, image URL, source product URL, and source domain alongside your account. You can view and delete saved items at any time from your account page.

2c. Usage data

We use Google Analytics to collect anonymized usage data including pages visited, referral sources, and approximate geographic region. This data does not identify you personally.

We track clicks on AliExpress affiliate links in aggregate (product title, source domain, timestamp) to understand which search results are useful. Clicks originating from the browser extension include an additional flag indicating the extension as the source — but no other identifying data is attached.

2d. Automatically collected data

Like all websites, our hosting provider (Vercel) may collect standard server logs including IP addresses and request metadata. This data is retained according to Vercel's own privacy policy and is not accessible to us in identified form.

3. How we use your information

We use collected data to:

  • Improve search results and product discovery quality
  • Identify popular watch models and strap types to support better
  • Measure which affiliate links result in purchases
  • Monitor for technical errors and improve Site reliability
  • Understand which third-party retailer sites users want us to support

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Cookies and tracking

The Site uses cookies set by Google Analytics to collect aggregated usage statistics. These cookies do not identify you personally. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

AliExpress and other third-party sites linked from the Site may set their own cookies when you visit them. We have no control over those cookies and recommend reviewing their respective privacy policies.

5. Affiliate links and third parties

This Site contains affiliate links to AliExpress. When you click these links, AliExpress may collect data about your visit and purchase in accordance with their privacy policy. dupe.watch only receives aggregated commission data — we do not receive your personal details, payment information, or order history from AliExpress.

6. The dupe.watch browser extension

The dupe.watch Chrome extension is an optional add-on that activates on a fixed list of supported watch strap retailer websites. We designed it to collect as little data as possible while still being useful.

6a. What the extension does

When you visit a product page on one of our supported retailers, the extension reads the page URL and sends it to dupe.watch so we can return matching AliExpress alternatives. That request includes the URL, an "extension" source tag, and the extension version number. It does not include browsing history, cookies from the retailer site, page contents, or any personal information.

6b. Site coverage

The extension only has permission to run on the explicit list of supported strap retailer domains enumerated in the extension's manifest. It cannot read or interact with pages on any other website. It does not request the <all_urls> permission and does not have access to your browsing history, bookmarks, downloads, tabs, cookies, or saved passwords.

6c. Local storage

The extension uses your browser's session storage to cache search results for 30 minutes (so that revisiting the same product page doesn't trigger a duplicate API call) and to remember which panels you have dismissed. This data is stored only in your browser, is cleared when your browser session ends, and is never transmitted to us.

6d. Anonymous vs. signed-in use

The extension works without an account. If you are not signed in, nothing about your extension activity is linked to an identity — requests are logged the same way as anonymous website searches. If you sign in (via the same dupe.watch account used on the website), the extension will recognize your session via the standard authentication cookies issued by dupe.watch. Recognizing your session is what enables the "Save" feature on individual results.

6e. Removing the extension

You can uninstall the extension at any time from the Chrome extensions page. Uninstalling clears all data the extension stored locally in your browser. To delete saved finds associated with your account, sign in to dupe.watch and remove them from your account page, or contact us.

7. Data storage and security

Search queries and click data are stored in Vercel's cloud infrastructure (United States). We implement reasonable security measures to protect stored data. However, no internet transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We retain search and click logs indefinitely for analytics purposes. If you would like your query data deleted, contact us and we will make reasonable efforts to comply.

8. Children's privacy

dupe.watch is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the Site, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (including under the GDPR for users in the EU/EEA and the CCPA for users in California), you may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of data we hold about you.

If you do not have a dupe.watch account, we do not have personally identifiable information associated with your use of the Service — search queries are stored without an identifier.

If you have an account, you can sign in to view and delete your saved finds and saved watches at any time. To delete your account and any associated email address and saved data, contact us via our contact page and we will process the request within a reasonable timeframe.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will indicate the date of the most recent update at the top of this page. Continued use of the Site after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
